Portraiture can be very rewarding. It's a chance to show the best side (literally) of someone, and create a photo that communicates something unique. The first rule of good portraiture is LOOK at your subject. This sounds obvious but take a browse through all the shots you have of your family and friends and see if they don't have a sameness about them. Head and shoulders, passport photos, awkward poses, uncomfortable expressions, blank looks, embarrassed smiles...?

Such as MTF charts for instance. Which are? MTF curves tell you how much the lens reduces the contrast depending on spatial frequency (in lp/mm), distance from image centre and aperture. For more information see www.smu.edu/~rmonagha/mf/mtfuse.html There is a site which lists specs for 35 mm lenses (www.photodo.com) but I haven't found one for digital camera lenses.

Does anybody have the technical specifications of lenses of (consumer and prosumer) digital cameras ? As they're generally built in to the camera, most companies don't publish lens charts for digicams.  The pros (who the companies assume are the only ones that need the charts) will generally shoot cameras that use 35mm lenses, for which the charts already exist. Chris
