In comparing photographers, I have noticed tremendous variations in quality. Some places that I checked out had photo albums on display that had really BAD photos in them...brides and grooms caught with horrible _expression_s on their faces, out of focus, basically weak looking , etc. (and this is their *best* work?!?), and then there were other places that really had some nice work to show, but most of those places were very expensive.  My question is, why is there such a difference in the quality (and subsequent price) of professional photography?  All of the places I went to used medium format for the formal shots and 35 mm for candids.  I know that talent and creativity plays an important role, but shouldn't the formal, posed shots be of similar quality from photographer to photographer?  Is it the camera equipment used?  The developing process?  Lighting?  Am I just too picky?  I know there are several professional photographers on this newsgroup, so thanks in advance for replies!
